Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make our Easter Vigil Mass and Reception such a wonderful, prayerful, and joyful celebration.  The hard working volunteerswho set and re-set the church and Altar of Repose for Holy Week and Easter, the many volunteers who generously brought in sweet and savory dishes for the reception, and the many quiet volunteers who helped tidy up the church and Higgins Hall between Masses made it all possible.

Thank you!

Meet the 2011 St. Paul Interns.

A testimony to having interns:

Since the fall of 2004, we at St. Paul Catholic Center (the Newman Center at Indiana University) have offered a paid internship in music ministry to undergraduates.  These students have the opportunity to accompany for masses, direct instrumental and choral ensembles, plan the music for liturgies and participate in the liturgy committee.  It has been my great pleasure to mentor our young interns as they learn about the church documents such as Sing to the Lord and the inner workings of being a music minister.  We also provide the opportunity for our interns to attend NPM (National Pastoral Musicians) conventions and other formation/spiritual events such as our local chapter’s pastoral musician retreat during Lent.    I must stress that we are not a financially well-to-do parish; rather we have made a commitment to our internship program because we believe in forming leaders for our Church in the here and now.

In addition, we also strive to include all ages in music ministry.   We are a university parish which means we have a great number of families with children.  It is inspiring to see a string trio of junior high students accompanying the youth choir.  We have teens who sing prayerfully along side the adult resident parishioners during our 10:30 mass.  One of our most successful events was an intergenerational concert that featured sacred music.  Yes, we are doing great things (by the grace of God) and I am proud to be a part of it!

The  invitations we extend  to promising young people might just be the spark that encourages them to be our most responsible, enthusiastic volunteers in the Church.  Our youth are full of talent, energy and Spirit.  We must invest in them NOW so that they might be the leaders of today and tomorrow.
