Newsflash

Let us take this month of April, Autism Awareness Month, to challenge ourselves to learn more about the ways in which we can accommodate the needs of those in our community who experience autism so that they may participate more fully, and to seek out and celebrate the richness of the gifts they have to offer.  This month let us pray for our parish families, that our communities will model the welcoming and inclusive ministry of Jesus, seeking always to see the image of God in every person.  When we grow in our understanding of autism, it will lead to relationships of support and increase a sense of belonging for those who live with autism and their families. If you have a family member who experiences autism or know of parishioners with autism who may need certain accommodations or support to participate in parish life, please call Kara Favata at 317-236-1444 or kfavata@archindy.org.

Blessings

In Acts Chapter 20:35 we read that “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” This verse has meant many things to me over the years but right now I am looking at this as a way to give back to God. Everyday we receive so many blessings from God that it is easy to take things for granted. Today alone: God gave me life, my family, my friends, my job, snow for my daughter to play in (yes, even snow) and so much more. How have I thanked him?

After listening to a talk on graciousness last week I felt compelled to find a way to thank God everyday for His blessings. I also wanted to teach my family that it is so important to thank God for everything that He gives us. We have begun a Blessing Wall.

Our Blessing Wall is a large piece of paper taped to the closet door in the living room, we will see this everyday. Each night everyone is to write one blessing or one thing they are grateful for from that day. Even though we have just begun it is a blessing in itself to see what my family is thankful for each day.

So in our house we are giving thanks back to God for the many blessings that he bestows on us each day. This is an easy reminder of how blessed we truly are. I challenge everyone to find one thing each day to give thanks back to Our Heavenly Father.
