Newsflash

Let us take this month of April, Autism Awareness Month, to challenge ourselves to learn more about the ways in which we can accommodate the needs of those in our community who experience autism so that they may participate more fully, and to seek out and celebrate the richness of the gifts they have to offer.  This month let us pray for our parish families, that our communities will model the welcoming and inclusive ministry of Jesus, seeking always to see the image of God in every person.  When we grow in our understanding of autism, it will lead to relationships of support and increase a sense of belonging for those who live with autism and their families. If you have a family member who experiences autism or know of parishioners with autism who may need certain accommodations or support to participate in parish life, please call Kara Favata at 317-236-1444 or kfavata@archindy.org.

Winter Shelter

The Interfaith, Low-barrier Winter Shelter, year two - The Interfaith Winter Shelter opened its doors on November 1, 2010 at 9:00 pm.  Homeless persons were welcomed, even if there was a little alcohol on their breath.  On average, about thirty folks will bunk down at the host site (First United Church, First Christian Church, Trinity Episcopal Church or First United Methodist Church) each night of the week. St. Paul has worked with First Christian Church on Kirkwood & Washington by covering the personnel for Thursday evenings.  About twenty five volunteers are needed for the five shifts of each night.   Last year over one hundred St. Paul members volunteered to serve.  We also support the project with financial donations and with donations of individually-packaged treats for the clients.  The treats can be deposited in the baskets in the gathering space near the water fountain.  Donations can be made by check or on-line.The shelter will remain open until March 31, 2011.
