Newsflash

Let us take this month of April, Autism Awareness Month, to challenge ourselves to learn more about the ways in which we can accommodate the needs of those in our community who experience autism so that they may participate more fully, and to seek out and celebrate the richness of the gifts they have to offer.  This month let us pray for our parish families, that our communities will model the welcoming and inclusive ministry of Jesus, seeking always to see the image of God in every person.  When we grow in our understanding of autism, it will lead to relationships of support and increase a sense of belonging for those who live with autism and their families. If you have a family member who experiences autism or know of parishioners with autism who may need certain accommodations or support to participate in parish life, please call Kara Favata at 317-236-1444 or kfavata@archindy.org.

Freshmen launch their college career with faith

Twenty-one freshmen met together for an over-night retreat on Sept 17-18 at Camp Ransburg (by Lake Monroe) with a retreat team of dozen upper classmen. This annual retreat offers these freshmen the opportunity to step back from four weeks of induction into life at Indiana University to consider where they are and where they are going. Four of the retreat team members gave reflections that focused small group discussion and activities. Topics ranged from “where we’ve come from,” “prayer,” “what do I do about failure,” to “where do we go from here.” Various icebreakers and games punctuated the 24-hour retreat time. Oh, and there was plenty of good food. Besides this, many St. Paul parishioners lovingly provides snacks!  Check out our photos here.

Past experience says that many of the retreatants connect with St. Paul and ministry quickly and with enthusiasm. After all, this was a Spirit-filled moment in life.

The next major retreat is Kairos 21 scheduled for Feb 11-14, 2011. Save the date!

Wednesday Night Holy Hour and Drop-In: Every Wednesday evening when school is in session, we have an hour of prayer planned by students. This is followed by drop-in where we simply hang out and have fun. It has been known that food has, on occasion, appeared.

Friday Game and Movie Nights: Periodically throughout the year we have evenings where we will either play games or watch movies. The Game Nights are always just for fun. The Movie Nights are often for fun. Sometimes, however, we will go beyond the popcorn and Jujubes fare and watch something that is topical and thought provoking. Our first movie night is scheduled for Friday, September 18 and will begin at 8 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Center.
